About the station
Named after the neighbouring Chorsu bazaar, one of the largest in Central Asia; the word means «four sides». It was built by the open-cut method right through the market square while the bazaar was being rebuilt. The walls are finished in white Gazgan marble, with the bas-reliefs «Ecology» and «Link of Times».
The name
The station is named after the neighbouring Chorsu bazaar, one of the largest in Central Asia. The bazaar in turn took the name of the historic area: in Persian and Uzbek «chorsu» means «four sides».
Design
The station has a single vault and a 102 m island platform. The lobby and platform walls are faced with white Gazgan marble, and the floor is laid with grey granite. The side walls of the hall carry the turquoise-and-white bas-reliefs «Ecology» and «Link of Times» by Yu. Kim.
History
The station was built by the open-cut method right through the market square while the bazaar was being rebuilt in the late 1980s. It opened on 6 November 1989 and was the end of the line until April 1991. It has an underground and a surface lobby, with exits to Zarqaynar and Beruniy streets.
Fun fact
The market building next to the station, built in 1983–1990, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2026 as part of Tashkent's modernist architecture.
