About the station
«Olmazor» means «apple orchard». From 1977 to 2020 it was the terminus of the line. Square white marble columns carry a ribbed ceiling with hidden lights, and six red granite pylons with Victory-themed high reliefs stand in the middle of the platform.
The name
«Olmazor» is Uzbek for «apple orchard». The station got this name in November 2010 — the same year the Sabir Rakhimov district was renamed Olmazor. For the previous 33 years it bore the name of General Sabir Rakhimov, a Hero of the Soviet Union.
Design
A shallow column station (8 m) with an island platform 102 m long. Square columns of white Nurata marble carry a white ribbed ceiling: the lights are hidden between the ribs and the cornices bear national motifs. Six red granite pylons with high reliefs on Victory and the heroes of the Great Patriotic War stand in the middle of the platform; one of the panels portrays Sabir Rakhimov.
History
The station opened on 6 November 1977 as the southern terminus of the first metro section. It remained the terminus until 26 December 2020, when the line was extended over the overground Sergeli section to Chinor. The new section joins Olmazor through a 580 m connecting tunnel.
Fun fact
Under the 1971 plan the station was to be called «Dustlik».
